Happy Birthday!

Hiya!

How is everyone doing?  It has been a very long week for me.  We had three blizzards roll through our area, got tons of snow, work is crazy and my mom slipped on the ice and fell and broke her leg.  School was closed for two days, and they had a two hour late start the other two.  R and Hulk went home last Saturday, which is probably a great thing, because I have a feeling they'd be stuck here had they waited even one more day.  I can't remember a time when I've ever been this cold.  I just can't seem to warm up, no matter how many layers I've got on. lol

Anyway, I was hoping to get my Valentine's started, but it just didn't happen.  I did, however, get a fun birthday card done last night.  Here it is...

I love the fun, bright colors and patterns on this card.  I've been trying my luck at heat embossing on vellum lately.  It's an awesome look, but I can't figure out how to not warp my paper a bit.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  I am in love with sequins now too, but "randomly" placing them is so much more difficult than it seems, for me.  I spent a lot of time trying to make these look random. lol  I have a friend who will be celebrating her 35th in a couple weeks, so I'm going to send this to her.  I hope she likes it.  I'm going to submit this for the following challenges.

Sketch For You To Try #20: Sketch
Seize The Birthday: Birthday
Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge: Old & New (I used older stamps and dies I've had in my stash, with new dies and sequins)
Papertake Weekly Challenge: Anything Goes
Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Something New (New dies and sequins)

I'll be back soon, with another something crafty.  On Friday, I have another CASE-ing Christmas card for you, and in February and March, I've got some very exciting things going on.  I hope you'll check back regularly, for all of the fun stuff. :-)

Have a wonderful day!

Fabulous birthday card! Love all the fun, colourful elements! The sequins are perfect and they do indeed look "random." I have tried just "tossing or dropping" sequins or buttons on my project to try to make them random. sometimes it works, sometimes not so much! I don't have any ideas re: the vellum though. Your vellum star looks fabulous, worth the work!
Hope you can get warmed up. It is also VERY cold here in Thunder Bay, ON. Today it is currently -30 including the windchill, but on Wednesday it was still -42 c with the wind at lunch time! We are hoping it will warm up a bit soon as we are anxious to get out skiing. We skipped it this morning due to the windchill.
Take care, hope you get time to relax a bit this weekend!

Well Steph...your card looks great and I wish I had a hint for you as well as me for not warping my vellum. No luck as of yet. I have even tried laying down on a surface and heating it. Hope you all warm up soon and your life goes back to normalcy. Thanks for joining us at Seize the Birthday.

Such a fun card! I love the mix of patterns. You did a wonderful job placing the sequins "randomly". It can be a challenge at times. Speaking of challenge....Thanks for sharing with us this week for the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. It was fun visiting your blog. Have a great evening!

Saw this card in the gallery and fell in love! So sweet, really!! Love this color combination; it just works so well. Susan Rihala (from ?Simplicity?) says to place things like sequins, blings, or enamel dots in a triangle shape. Use odd numbers of them, and form triangles for that random look. And Ardyth taught me to hold my papers away from the heat gun when embossing. Takes a bit longer to set up, but my papers don't warp. Hope this helps... Great card! Bev
